Songs - Back to the Manger

The First Noel
Arr. by Jen Ludwig © 2009 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel

Let us all in one accord
Sing praises to our Lord
With one voice let us sing
Praises to the Newborn King
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Back to the Manger
By Jen Ludwig © 2008 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

Busy shopping malls and crowded stores
People wandering, what are they looking for?
Piles of presents and paper tossed about
"Where is His presence?" I want to shout

Seeking hope in a wind-up toy
Seeking peace in a world of noise
Seeking life at the five-and-dime
We've lost the truth of Christmastime

But you call me back to the manger
You call me back to the cross
Where I meet a holy stranger
And count this all as loss
For you sent the world a Savior
Who paid the highest cost
So we could live a life of abundance
So we could find him when we're lost

I find myself caught up in the race again
Even though I know no one can ever win
I want approval, acceptance, even love
I'm looking around me, not looking up

Seeking hope in a wind-up toy
Seeking peace in a world of noise
Seeking life at the five-and-dime
We've lost the truth of Christmastime

But you call me back to the manger
You call me back to the cross
Where I meet a holy stranger
And count this all as loss
For you sent the world a Savior
Who paid the highest cost
So we could live a life of abundance
So we could find him when we're lost

It's time to worship You, to fall upon our knees
Before the only son of God
He gives us eyes made new, so that we can see
The greatest gifts cannot be bought

Name Above All Names
By Jen Ludwig © 2004 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

So small, so weak
This child in your arms
Who's unable to speak
Could He be the One? King of Israel
As you're watching Him sleep,
Are you able to tell that He's...

Wonderful Counselor,
Prince of Peace, Mighty God
Wrapped in the clothes of a babe
Holy One, Sovereign Lord
Immanuel, the Living Word
Born to the world to save!

Why now? Why here?
In a stable so cold,
Could He really draw near
To His chosen ones in such a way
The Author of Life
In the form of a babe? He is...

Wonderful Counselor,
Prince of Peace, Mighty God
Wrapped in the clothes of a babe
Holy One, Sovereign Lord
Immanuel, the Living Word
Born to the world to save!

You came to save us
Almighty King
You have redeemed us
With Your offering
Born to die, You gave Your life
A sacrifice of the greatest price
Beautiful Savior
Name above all names!

It Could Not Be Silent
By Jen Ludwig © 2009 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

Cattle were lowing
And the candles were glowing
Crowds began to gather
With the arrival of the shepherds

How could they call it silent
That holy night
When there's a baby cryin'
Beneath the star so bright
How could they call it silent
That holy night
No, it could not be silent

Here starts the story
God's grace and glory
Heaven meeting earth
Inside a dirty box of hay
Such strange surroundings
No crib for her king
Mary's young and frightened
Holding the Savior of the world

How could they call it silent
That holy night
When there's a Savior lyin'
Beneath the star so bright
How could they call it silent
That holy night
No, it could not be silent

Oh Bethlehem awaken
The morning light is breakin'
Hope rises up tomorrow
The King is born
Hear the angels sing!

How could they call it silent
That holy night
When there's a baby cryin'
Beneath the star so bright
How could they call it silent
That holy night
When there's a Savior lyin'
Beneath the star so bright
How could they call it silent
That holy night
When there's a choir singin'
Beneath the star so bright
How could they call it silent
That holy night
No, it could not be silent

What Can I Bring?
By Jen Ludwig © 2009 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

They came to see Him
From miles away
They came to worship Him
Kneeling in the hay
They brought Him gold
A gift for royalty
They brought Him incense
A holy offering
The myrrh they brought him
Foretelling what would be
Gifts for prophet, priest and king

What can I bring?
What can I say?
What can I offer him?
How can I repay?
For the life He gave
And the way he set me free
How can I honor Him
As I fall on my knees?

I want to see Him
Though I feel miles away
I want to worship Him
But words get in the way
I have no gold
My riches are not enough
No incense or spices
To dedicate my love

What can I bring?
What can I say?
What can I offer him?
How can I repay?
For the life He gave
And the way he set me free
How can I honor Him
As I fall on my knees?

All I have is less than You deserve
There are no gifts, no perfect words

So I bring you joy
I bring you peace
I bring You a thankful heart
For saving me
I bring You the love
You have lavished over me
I bring You my brokenness
As I fall on my knees
Before my King...
These are the gifts that I bring

Silent Night
Arr. by Jen Ludwig © 2009 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly host sing hallelujah
Christ the Savior is born
Christ the Savior is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming, amazing grace
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
Jesus Lord at Thy birth

Glory to God
By Jen Ludwig © 1997 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

Long ago in a foreign land
An angel came to Mary
Bringing word of the time at hand
Of the days that were to come

He said, Do not be afraid
I bring you news of great joy
Within your womb a babe
Is the King of the world

And she sang
Glory to God in the heavenly heights
With my body and soul I will praise Him
Glory to God in the heavenly heights
With my body and soul I will praise Him

Shepherds kept watch on a lonely night
And as the world lay sleeping
There came an angel in a blazing light
In the glory of the Lord

He said, Do not be afraid
I bring you news of great joy
For on this very day
Your Savior is born

And they sang
Glory to God in the heavenly heights
And peace to all men who please Him
Glory to God in the heavenly heights
And peace to all men who please Him

Angels came revealing God's glory
Angels came proclaiming God's name
Angels sang and told of the story
Of Jesus Christ and the time that He came

I see the angel upon the tree
And as I look upon her face
I hear her whisper quietly
The story of God's grace

She says, Do not be afraid
For you behold a great joy
The one born Christmas day
Is the Savior our Lord

And I sing
Glory to God in the heavenly heights
With my body and soul I will praise Him
Glory to God in the heavenly heights
And peace to all men who please Him

Benediction
By Jen Ludwig © 2008 4Sundays Music/ASCAP

Let His peace
Reign over your heart
Let it seep down deep
Into who you are

Let His grace
Heal all of your pain
Let it find the hidden places
All your scars and shame

Let His joy grow
Until it overflows
Spilling all around you
To everyone you know

Let His love, His amazing love
Give you the strength to stand
Knowing He cares for you so deeply
And has you in His plans
He has you in His plans

Peace and joy, love and hope
May they always overflow
Know His sweet forgiveness
Feel His arms around you as you go
